COVID-19 has brought numerous employment and workplace-related issues to the forefront that franchise systems need to take into account, especially when it comes to the franchisor-franchisee relationship and providing the correct guidance to franchisees in the system. These issues are wide ranging and include health and safety matters, joint-employer risk, human rights issues, issues with leaves of absence and accommodation requests, layoffs and recalls, and work refusals.
