Suzanna Winsborough is a Partner at KMB Law, a member of the Corporate and Commercial Law Group, and leads the firm’s Business & Estate Succession Group.
With a practice that focuses on succession for both individuals and corporations, Suzanna advises and assists clients with their personal estate planning needs, family business succession plans and corporate reorganization plans.
Suzanna has vast experience in complex estate planning, including multiple will strategies, Henson trusts, and various other testamentary trusts. She also prepares and advises on different types of intervivos trusts, including joint partner trusts and discretionary family trusts, typically used as part of a greater tax plan.
Suzanna regularly works with clients’ accountants and other professional advisors to implement business succession plans that will give effect to the interests and wishes of clients, while simultaneously protecting the business and the clients’ beneficiaries and successors.
A large part of Suzanna’s practice involves implementing estate freezes and other tax-driven corporate reorganizations to assist clients with transitioning family businesses to the next generation and for general tax planning.
To enhance her ability to deal with complex estate planning situations, Suzanna obtained the Certified Financial Planner designation in 2013, and in 2016 obtained the Chartered Life Underwriter designation, known as Canada’s premier wealth transfer and estate planning designation. Suzanna is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
