Frédéric P. Gilbert is a senior partner at Fasken and is Co Head of the Montreal commercial litigation group as well as the franchise and distribution law group. An author of the most recent reference work on franchise law in Quebec, he has successfully led some of the most important franchise cases in Canada, such as Dunkin’ Brands and Freightliner. He also represented the franchisor Modern Concept at the Supreme Court of Canada level. Co-president and founder of two first conferences (Développement récents en droit de la franchise) on recent developments in franchise law, Frédéric is also a regular speaker on other panels in this area of law. Over the years, he has earned many accolades and awards for the high quality of his work in the franchise industry and in commercial litigation: “Litigation Star” by Benchmark Canada (2020), lawyer of the year in franchise law (Montreal) The Best Lawyers in Canada (2019 and 2021), “Rising Star” by the magazine Lexpert (2015), “Future Star” by Benchmark Canada (2013), “Professional of the Year” by the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Montréal and the Government of Québec. In March 2020, he was invited to become a fellow of the very prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, which welcomes and honours some of the best litigators in North America.
